Poetic

“It’s poetic,” they said to her.
And it really was.
Pure and genuine, sad and beautiful
all at the same time.
But you know what?
She didn’t want it to be poetic.

True, great stories are crafted like that.
But I bet Romeo would have preferred
a happily ever after with his Juliet,
and living a not-so-poetic tale.

They tried to cheer her up, saying
she was like some Alice in a wonderland.
She refused to agree to this.
These weren’t adventures, they wereย  more like
the ordeals that Atticus had to face
when he tried to save the Mockingbird.

True, the ordeals gave a meaning to the story.
Sadness and beauty can co-exist, agreed.
But isn’t a happy tale charming too?
