Once upon a con

So I just stumbled upon this book series while going through Goodreads choice awards for 2019. Fairy tales retold in the modern fandom setting, I was definitely intrigued and decided to give it a shot.

The series has 2 books already published and the 3rd one is going to come out later this year.

The first book Geekerella as the name suggests is a retelling of Cinderella in the geeky fandom world. When I started reading the book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.But I ended up loving it!

Now I don’t want to get into the story and spoil it for those of you who are planning to read it. So I m just gonna say this, it’s a story about a fangirl who wants to go to a con and struggles to do so.  It was everything that a fairy tale is and it worked so well in the modern world. And I liked how the author has utilized the use of social media , Tumblr and other factors that affect a fandom , making the story so realistic and thrilling. And yet it felt so unreal to read so many references from so many fandoms and geeks going crazy over them. It was just nice you know, being represented.
I was able to read the book in a few sittings, it is definitely a page turner , difficult  to put down. By the time I had reached the end, I was so full of joy feeling all the fluffy things in the word that I have experienced as a fangirl.
I did find the ending a bit unrealistic in the first book, but hey it’s a fairy tale so that’s acceptable.

And after Geekerella, I was actually a little skeptical about reading the rest because there are only a few sequels that live up to the expectation. But the second book surprised me yet again .It is called The Princess and the Fangirl , which is a retelling of the Princess and the Pauper.

This is the story of one of the side characters from Geekerella, and again it works really well in the fandom setting. The main characters from Geekerella appear as well throwing a soft, large  wave of nostalgia as you read it.

The third book of this series is called Bookish and the beast. Ah, good old Belle!  Don’t you think that she is the most suitable fairy tale character for a fangirl? Now, I am excited to see who makes appearance from Geekerella universe in this retelling of Beauty and the beast. And I just can’t wait to read it.
