Apologize?

Apologies were made.
Unacceptable, they were shattered,
shredded to pieces and scattered.

And then I wondered,
why do people apologize?
Perhaps to get rid of guilt,
but do they realize?
The damage that is done,
and the scars that remain?

So a promise was made,
to never apologize.
The guilt won’t fade,
but a meaningless apology,
is no apology at all.
So angel if you get lonely,
and if your demons crawl
out at night, remember
you are the one
who chose courage over easy.
